Fuck The Facts/Amer/2013 EP Review

Fuck  The  Facts  are  a  band  from  Quebec,  Canada  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  with  a  musical  style  on  this  recording  I  would  describe  as  being  experimental  noise/grindcore  and  this  is a  review  of  their  self  released  2013  ep  "Amer".

Drums  range  from  slow, mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  a  good  amount  of  brutal  sounding  blast  beats  being  thrown  into  the  music,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very   strong  and  powerful  sound  with heavy  riffing  that  dominates  throughout  the  recording.

Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  riffs  that  combine  experimental,  noise,  crust  and  grindcore  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  while  the  lead  guitars  are  very  melodic  sounding  death  metal  guitar  solos  and  leads.

Vocals  range  from  crust  style  yells  to  high  pitched  grindcore  screams,  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  French  and  cover  Life,  Psychosis  and  Comedy,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  strong,  powerful,  heavy  and  professional  sound  for  being  a  self  released  recording  where  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on this ep.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Fuck  The  Facts  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Vent  Du  Nord"  "A  Void"  and  "Amere".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.

Afgrund Interview

1. Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?
1. We have a new release out called "Corporatocracy", released on cd by PRC Music and on colored vinyl by Fat Ass Records. We have a new drummer, Patrik Fält, he joined us for the european tour with Mumakil in March 2013 and he's been delivering some shocking blast beats.. looking forward to record new material with him!

2. How would you describe the musical sound of the new album and how it differs from previous releases?
2. Somewhat more primitive.. and refined, at the same time.

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
3. Enrivomentalism, globalization, medi-cruelties, sexism, alienation and broken dreams.

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?

4. "Precipice", "cliff" or "ravine".. dunno the exact word in english. It represents our music and the feeling behind it.

5. Currently the band members live in different countries, how do you set up the recording process and also how do you rehearse for tours?
5. We get to the studio and live there for 1 or 2 weeks before recording and we put together all our ideas directly at the studio and then we record a sessions. For example, the first session of Corporatocracy was done in 2010, then for label reasons we had put that aside and we recorded The Age of Dumb in 2 sessions in 2011. Then in 2012 we recorded the final session for Corporatocracy, while the cover songs are from a short session in 2009. For touring, we get a rehearsal place nearby the first gig, we fly there a day before and get our act together.

6. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?
6. Maryland Deathfest in USA, Brutal Assault and Obscene Extreme in Czech Republic as the biggest stages. However the best gigs are always the mini-stage or no-stage gigs, becos of the energy, becos band and crowd become one angry creature!

7. Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
7. We're figuring that out, probably no more shows until 2014..
8.The new album had a few cover tunes, what was the decision behind all of these covers?
8. The covers represent 3 moments in the history of grind. Discharge as the radicalisation of punk and first step towards grind, Repulsion one of the first grind bands and a period of the mixture of death metal and grind, and Nasum a coloss of modern grind.

9. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of grindcore?
9. It seems good, hard to say..

 10. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
10: We've been talking about exploring the murkier aspects of our style in the future..

11. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
11: Mostly 90's grindcore and death metal, hardcore, punk and doom-rock. To name a few: Assuck, Rotten Sound, Entombed, Pungent Stench, Converge, Youth of Today, Misfits, Active Minds, Cathedral and Black Sabbath.

12.Outside of music what are some of your interests?
12. I love science-fiction movies and books and all kind of comics. I'm big fan of Alan Moore and Grant Morrison, these guys blow my mind. I can suggest reading Moore's "Swamp Thing" and Morrison's "Animal-Man" or "Doom Patrol", greatest shit ever!

13. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
13. I'd like to spend a few words about the "siamese crocodile" on the cover of Corporatocracy: everybody i talked with assumed the meaning toward the predatory nature while this is a symbol of democracy and unity in diversity. These reptiles share a common belly, yet they fight over food!

All Pigs Must Die/Nothing Violates This Nature/Southern Lord Records/2013 CD Review

All Pigs  Must  Die  are  a  band  from  Massachuesetts  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  with  the  musical  style  on  this  recording  being  a  mixture  of  crust,  hardcore,  thrash  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2013  album  "Nothing  Violates  This  Nature"  which  was  released  by  Southern  Lord  Records.

Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  being  thrown  into  the  music,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing that  are  coming  out  of  the  guitars.

Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  riffs  that  combine  crust,  hardcore,  thrash  and  death  metal  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own  and  there  are  no  guitar  solos  or  leads  present  on  this  recording, a s  for  the  classical  guitars  which  are  only  utilized  briefly  use  finger  picking  to  add  some  more  dark  elements  to  the  album.

Vocals  are  mostly  crust/hardcore  style  yells  that  utilize  some  death  metal  aggression  at  times,  while  the  lyrics  cover  violent  and  hateful  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  strong,  powerful,  heavy  and  professional  sound  to  it.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  All  Pigs  Must  Die  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Silencer"  "Of  Suffering"  "Holy  Plague"  and  "Articles  Of  Human  Weakness".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.

Hybrid Interview

1. Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?
Hi, Iván here, we just released our second album "Angst" through Deepsend Records and we are trying to sell some CD's to get some clothes, a pair of boots, and your motorcycle, just kidding, we only need some burritos, fake friends, and lots of "likes" in our Facebook page to get the attention of a big record label to grow our egos and wallets.
2. How would you describe the musical sound of the new album and how it differs from previous releases?
The main concept behind the band always was to mix all forms of extreme metal with whatever musical style we like and fits the songs, we don't like to clone bands with the typical mechanical sound filled with uninspired riffs and repeated structures. Our new record doesn't differs too much from the old stuff in the concept, but is a step forward in experimentation and song-writing with a deliberate search for a more organic sound.
3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the new release?
"Angst" is a conceptual album and all the songs are linked by the same state of mind: the feelings of a deep and existential anguish, which is the sensation I experience when looking to my Facebook wall filled with low-cost memes, cat pics and comments of people -who I don´t give a fuck- talking about Game Of Thrones.
4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?
The meaning of Hybrid is: Hate your Beard in December, and the inspiration was 50% Schwarzenegger and 50% Buck Angel.
5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?
The best ones, are the venues with 20-30 drunk people and outsiders with severe mental issues and black t-shirts of their own band. Maybe one of the best shows was the one with Mouth Of The Architect, great guys, great beards.
6. Do you have any touring plans for the future?
Not yet, but when oil prices fall we will be ready to ride our private jet and rock the Casbah.
7. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your newer music by fans of extreme metal?
So far the reviews have been awesome, we are very confident on the new record but we also know that we are not going to fill stadiums, maybe we need more pyrotechnics.
8. What is going on with the other musical projects these days?
Chus is busy right now giving drum lessons and touring Jespaña as a session drummer for a thrash metal band called Agresiva, I'm doing some shows and recording an EP with my beard'n'roll band Cachalotauro and Antonio is invoking fire elementals and watching 80's german shemale porn movies.
9. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
#Dynamics, #weird structures, #bald people, #new songs, #lots of cash, #disappointments, #stress, #100montaditos, #Vips, #nosleeptillbrooklyn, #señores
10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Dodecahedron, Candiria, Maruta, Morbid Angel, Allan Holdsworth, Joey the Bada$$, Car Bomb, Disco Las Palmeras, Krallice, Genesis, Eros Ramazotti, Scatman John, Nortt, Gadget, Manowar, and Mike Patton doing music alongside Buck Angel and Schwarzenegger with metal dildos.
11. How would you describe your views on Occultism?
Personally I have a scientific view of the things, I don't believe in anything related to unicorns, elves or trolls, but I firmly believe in Schwarzenegger as the saviour of the occidental society.
12. Outside of music what are some of your interests?
Typical stuff like building plans to rule the world, corpsepainting, growing our beards, random tattoos with no sense, eating junk food, stilling niggas bikes, and watching cat videos on the internet.
13. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
