Pray U Prey Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
1)  Yes, Pray U Prey started when Simon G from the band Suicide Watch. And Me (Shrew, Prophecy Of Doom/Alehammer) Had a jam over some beers, i really liked his riffs and i wanted to write new lyrics again for songs, so we got Shrub (Prophecy Of Doom/Alehammer) on bass. And Colin (Suicide Watch) on drums.

2.So far you have released an ep and a full length, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on both of the recordings?
2)I think there's a good mix of blast beats, grindy stuff and hard core punk riffs too, We have remixed the EP tracks, and put them on the end of the Figure the 8 cd. It's got a good production as we recorded at the excellent studio 6 near Swindon, U/K.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
3)I write the lyrics, and for me it's carrying on from ideas i've had with Prophecy Of Doom, How our ego minds are destroyed through mental forced unwanted conditioning by those in power/money.How we confuse our own feelings for emotions, which are also used against us, by the same people, ie-sales techniques/fear of anything. How religions have stolen the way out of our insanity, through teaching more mind based dead ends. in short, we all have an awareness which is heart based, and works via self intuition, through a balanced logic/feeling certainty. my lyrics try and cover view points from this angle.

4.What is the meaning and  inspiration behind the name 'Pray U Prey'?
4)Pray U Prey to me sums up the mindset of most asleep people, while we collectively destroy our selves and the world.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?
5)We have not done many live gigs so far, but the one that stands out for me was playing at the Common Ground Festival last Summer, great people and cause. We play tight and fast!

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the new album?
6) Yes we hope to play gigs this year, some good festivals would be nice.

7.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of death metal, grindcore, and crust?
7)We are just starting to get feed back from our first LP, We are very happy with it, and hope people will question things more if they find the lyrics interesting.

8.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?
8)Si and Colin hope to record a new thrash metal LP with their other band Suicide Watch, while Shrub and me are getting ready to meet Karl (ex-Impulse Manslaughter) and Scoot (Doom) for some Alehammer fun later in the year!

9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
9)More of the same i think, but from a slightly different angle of the same subjects (if that makes sense!) We hope to record an 7" EP later in the year, then another LP in 2018.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
10)Si and Colin love most hard metal/punk bands. Shrub loves Killing Joke and Slayer, i love most crusty metal and Japanese noise bands.

11.What are some of your non musical interests?
11)Pubs! Gigs, meeting new people. being in my garden!!

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
12)Sometimes to go forward, you have to go back. From circle to spiral, figure the 8.
Thanks for your time.

Blastomycosis Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?

We just released in CD form, covered in flies and afterbirth through CDN records. We are booking shows for the year and writing some new material for a new release.

2.How would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recordings?

I'd say its kind of a blend of brutal/tech and old school death with some slammy parts here and there.  Short, punchy, catchy songs.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored over the years with their music?

Lyrically, we are quite comical.  Usually, about bodily fluids, mutilations,  whores, pretty standard, hah

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Blastomycosis'?

Blastomycosis is actually a fungal disease.  Happens mostly in dogs, but people get it too, and it's pretty brutal.   Plus it has "blast" in it.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

Playing with Incantation was pretty awesome.   Also touring with Lividity back in 09 was a great experience.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

We have a few confirmed shows so far, we are working on a tour soon, hopefully it all works out.

7.CDN  Records  are re-issuing your 2015 album in 2017, what are your thoughts on the final product?

Well the music is great (so buy it!), package is simple but looks wicked.  We are more than happy with it.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of death metal and grindcore?

Pretty good!  Our following is pretty cult but the majority of the feedback has been great.  Even the bad feedback has been hilarious.

9.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?

4/5 of us are in WILL OF THE ANCIENTS, a melodic black/death band.  I'm writing a new album, and taking my sweet as time with it.  We are in no rush.  It's coming together though.

Mike is in MORS VERUM.  I believe they are doing some pre production/writing for their second album.

10.When can we expect newer music and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Working on it now.  Hopefully (don't quote me on this) we will have something out by early next year.  Maybe sooner.

11.What are some of the bands or musical projects that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

For myself, as influences on Blastomycosis  bands like Dying Fetus, Jungle Rot, Desecration, Cannibal Corpse.

Right now I'm listening to a lot of Ontario Death metal.  Gravitational Distortion, Accursed Spawn, Human Compost, Corprophemia, Ending Tyranny, Fractal Generator, tons more.

12.What are some of your non musical interests?

I like stand up comedy, gaming, politics.  Most of my time is taken up with musical stuff

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Buy the album and support death metal!

Jarnbord Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

Of course! Järnbörd was formed in mid 2014,  if we remember correctly. At that time we called us ”Den mänskliga faktorn” (The human factor). Jocke (drums) and Anders (guitar/voc) are also playing together in the grind band Ratad, who released the EP ”Slutet välkomnas” in 2013, and they discussed to form a second band. The members of  Ratad is scattered round in Sweden, and Johan on guitar was having some success with the punk band ”Gamla Pengar” (check ´em out!!!), so there were time over for having another band. Anders and Jocke both live in Malmö and learned that Anders old pal from his studies in SmÃ¥land had relocated to the southern part of Sweden - the mighty Micke of Bestial mockery and IlldÃ¥d (the crustband!!!). So then we had to start a band. We recorded a demo under the name of ”Mänskliga faktorn” and had some gigs under that name, the rest of that story continues under question nr 4...

2.How would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recordings?

The three of us have somewhat different musical preferences, but they are pretty similar when it comes down to the point. We wanted to do some d-beat, crust with grind, and not have so much metal-influences shining through (as in our other bands). More punk. Maybe we couldn´t keep the metal out of it in full, but that was the agenda for the band anyways. All three contribute to the song writing, so the songs have different identity regarding who has been the main writer.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

We write about different stuff that people would consider  ”social commentary” or ”political”, we try to write our lyrics based on what we have experienced and down to earth. Some social realism type of ethos – the everyday struggle, injustices and so on. Sometimes they become more philosophical I would guess. We discuss our lyrics quite a bit, choice of words and stuff like that. The words should sometimes be drastic and direct. They are as you know in Swedish.

4.Originally the band was called 'Den Manskliga Faktom', what was the cause of the name change and also the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Jarnbord'?

Yeah, so under that name we released a demo and had some gigs. Eventually we got contacted by a pop-group with the same name, and they were pretty hostile at first (at least from our point of view), writing to us in way that made us read between the lines that they would take some sort of action if we didn´t change our name. We got pissed of at first, and questioned the relevance of their behavior, but we disarmed the situation and what the fuck, we hadn´t registrated our name as they had – we´re not a corporation or Slayer, so we took a new name, Järnbörd. The name means ”Trial by fire”, which was an medevial practice were an accused person would be forced to hold glowing iron or walk on it. If they did´nt  get burned they would be considered innocent. In our case the name is inspired by a play/book by Magnus Dahlström. The play deals a lot with the dark side of humanity, as an understatement.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

I would say our first gig ever with Suma on Inkonst (place in Malmö), and also at the punk/hardcore festival ”Häckebergapunx) were fun.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

No concrete plans, but we had a lot of serious personal shit going on in 2016 that are resolved now, and now that the split is finally released we will definitely put some more effort in getting gigs. We really enjoy to play live. Two of us are family men with two and three kids, so you know the priorities...

7.You have a split coming out with 'Resonance Cascade', what are your thoughts on the other band that had participated on the recording?

They rip totally!!! We differ a lot in sound maybe, but it´s a form of grindcore we enjoy much! We know the guys in Resonance Cascades from many other the bands they play with as well, nice dudes and very talented!

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of punk, crust, and grindcore?

The little feedback we have got until now have been good. Let´s hope people like our effort on the new release!

9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

We are refining the thing we got going on. Currently we are mixing a new recording, six new songs. Four of the songs are more grind then ever, faster, and then we have two standout tracks, one d-beat hymn and a mid-tempo anthem that will make people ”stampa takten”.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

As I said we are somewhat different in our musical taste -  Jocke is mainly into metal (he also plays in the DM-band “Cursus Bellum”, and BM-band “Totenwelt”). Anders is more into punk/grind/sludge but also post-rock and other stuff (he reviews gigs and records for the swedish site ”Hymn”), so he´s pretty diverse. Micke is also into metal a lot (old school), as well as raw punk/crust but also electromusic. He has studied music production and does some electronic music by himself.

11.What are some of your non musical interests?

Reading, working out, Arsenal, video games, union work, food, nature. And yeah, family life...

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Thanks for the interview! Hope to see you and others on some gig sometime! Play fast, and be nice!

Sci-fi  sounds  start  off  the  ep  and  after  the  intro  the  music  goes  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  thrash  influenced  direction  as  well  as  adding  death  metal  growls  onto  the  recording  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  grindcore  influences  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  along  with  the  raw  energy  of  punk.

High  pitched  screams  can  be  heard  at  times  and  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  mid  80's  and  early  90's  era  and  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  very  short  in  length  and  the  songs  are  very  short  in  length  and  sci  fi  sounds  also  make  a  return  later  on  during  the  recording  and  none  of  the  tracks  ever  use  any  guitar  solos  or  leads.

The  Vomiting  Dinosaurs  plays  a  musical  that  takes  the  old  school  styles  of  death  metal, grind,  thrash  and  punk  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  planets  and  scientific  themes.

In  my  opinion  The  Vomiting  Dinosaurs  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  death  metal,  grind,  thrash  and  punk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Circumbinary"  "Ganymede"  and  "Lava  Planet".  8  out  of  10.
